In Afterfire, play acts as a dress rehearsal for sovereignty. The installation is dominated by Milk Teeth, Wildfire, a monumental blue Wendy house that offers a “sanitised fantasy” of rural life—a performative veneer of the cottagecore idyll. This manicured reality is fractured by the accompanying video works, Arsonist’s Daughter and Comfort Zone. Depicting The Sims characters, their domiciles, and the blue Wendy house, consumed by fire, these loops of virtual incineration reveal the destruction simmering beneath the surface of the domestic dream.
“The sky blue house expands across the suite, its toy-like nature and uncanny details create a surreal environment that feels equally playful as it does disquieting.” — Sofia Hallström for Flash Art
